The article “On the Spline: A Brief History of the Computational Curve” was a very fascinating read. Having a background in Digital Arts with a focus on 3D Animation, I never actually knew the history behind the programs and tools I used on a daily basis. Learning about the origin behind the major concepts behind these modeling and computer graphic programs helped me better understand the difference between NURBS and subsurface modeling. It seems similar in differences between Photoshop vs Illustrator, Pixel vs Vector.
